Shanghai Disneyland!

We spent two wonderful days at Shanghai Disneyland!
Rich and I weren’t sure what to expect. There were a lot of concerns floating out there about cleanliness and potential rudeness. We did not experience any of those issues.

We chose a 2 day pass and stayed at the Shanghai Disneyland Hotel the night before so we could get an early start.

The park opened at 9 and we were told that they security check points would open at 8:15. After a quick breakfast at the hotel we walked over to the entrance and arrived at about 8am. Security opened exactly at 8:15 and we proceeded to the ticket entrance and then into the park. The cast members were all friendly, smiling and welcoming us to the park. We then stayed behind a queue line until exactly 9am. At that point there was a mad rush to get fast passes for one of two rides – Soarin and Roaring Rapids. It was actually a little crazy and by the next day they staggered us in to the park more so there was less of a stampede.

We were very lucky that the park wasn’t that busy for those two days and got on everything we wanted. We even got on some rides several times!

Tron is a must! I must admit the first time Rich and I rode it we weren’t that happy. The way the ride is designed it is as if you are on a motorcycle – so you are inclined to hover over the handlebars. Unfortunately, this was very uncomfortable and hurt our necks and backs. The next time we went to ride it we saw someone else sitting more upright so we decided to try it. Oh my gosh!!! What a difference!!! We then went on to ride it 6 times the second day and loved it!!!

Their Pirates ride called Pirates of the Caribbean – Battle for the Sunken Treasure is also really awesome! The traditional Pirates ride is one of our favorites but this is so different. Whereas the movies were vaguely based off of the original ride, Shanghai’s version is based off the movies. It’s hard to describe but it is kind of a cross between a boat ride, animatronics and a large movie screens that allow you to feel like you are part of the action. Very cool!

What is really nice is that their version of Disney Springs/Downtown Disney – Disneytown is next to the park. There also is an entrance into the park from there. This is great since you can leave the park for a little while, grab a nice lunch or dinner and do some shopping. Rich and I did this on our second day and shared some delicious appetizers at Wolfgang Puck’s.

Overall, I suggest getting there before they open, try to go during the week, take advantage of the Fastpass options and focus on the rides that are different than those you have been on before.

Rich and I truly enjoyed our visit – I highly recommend visiting!

Amazing dinner at Aurora at the Shanghai Disneyland Hotel.

We started the evening watching the show over the park/castle.

We selected a Chinese wine that was amazing and then progressed on with dinner.

For appetizers – I had a deconstructed caprese salad and Rich had a deconstructed onion soup.

For our entrees I had lobster with a miso butter sauce and Rich had beef two ways (short rib and sirloin with a yummy red wine sauce).

The service was impeccable and the food was amazing!  A must do!

Beautiful evening in Orlando last night.

Enjoyed a fun night watching Peter Cetera. The last time I saw him was in 1985 when he was still with Chicago!
